MISSISSIPPI MAYBE



In the middle of a river a raft is drifting along. The river is wide, as wide as the Mississippi maybe. On the raft there is a marquee. An old man is lying across sun-heated wooden beams, sleeping. A dog is lying there too, with its head lying on the old man’s hand. The dog is quiet and its’ eyes are open.
Next to them is a transistor-radio, its tune barely audible as the batteries slowly dying. Nobody will ever know what the dog is thinking about.
But the reader is surely feeling that the storyteller, the old man and the dog are one and the same person. The reader will find out what the dog is thinking about.
The dog is thinking: “I am here with my master and we have a good time together.”
“I am here with my master and we have a good time together.”
That is what the dog was thinking about. And now the letters on the paper are sl wly f dd ng aw y,

MISSISSIPI ASI

V strede širokej rieky pláva plť. Rieka je široká ako Mississipi asi. Na plti je šiator. Na brvnách vyhriatych slnkom leží a spí starec. Leží tam aj pes. Hlavu má položenú na ruke starca. Je ticho a pes má otvorené oči. Vedľa je pohodené tranzistorové rádio, ale má už veľmi slabé baterky, takže znie ťažko definovateľná melódia. Nikto nikdy sa nedozvie, na čo myslel pes.
Čitateľ však iste tuší, že rozprávač, plť, starec i pes sú jedna a tá istá osoba. Dozvie sa, na čo myslel pes. Pes myslel: “Som tu so svojim pánom a je nám spolu dobre.“
